There's more? There's more!
Outside the Vatican City (3rd day in Rome) |
So we left the hotel early and rode the subway to Vatican. We needed to hurry up a bit in order to be the first in line. We weren't exactly the first ones who arrived though. There were these two other Asians who were standing in front of the rope and not talking at all. It was a bit drizzly and we had to wait outside for an hour. The line grew longer and we couldn't lean on the wall since it was wet. People around us were smoking and it just smelled so bad.
After an hour of waiting, we finally went in. We went inside the Museum since there wasn't much people in there.
After that, we went to this other room filled with Ancient Egyptian artifacts.
We went in A LOT of rooms. There was this one room that was filled with sculptures of naked people (nyehehe) and this other room filled with paintings.
Everywhere you look, you'll see art. If you look to the right, you'll see paintings and sculptures. If you look to the left, you'll see more paintings and sculptures. If you look above, you'll see these magnificent paintings done by various artists. And if you're that observant, you'll be noticing that you're walking on colorful marble floors.
I didn't take a lot of pictures since some weren't that significant.
After several rooms, we headed to the Sistine Chapel. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside since their guards were so strict. There was this huge guard standing in the middle. He would shush us up whenever he hears someone whisper. It kinda goes like this *looks around* "SHHHHHHHHH.... Silence please" (complete with hand gestures).
Since I have no pictures to show, I shall describe the Cappella Sistina instead. It was this huge room with beautiful interiors. It was filled with paintings from the Bible. The famous ones are the "Creation of Adam" and "The last Judgement". These were painted by Michelangelo.
These Pictures aren't mine. I got them from Google
We went outside and guess what? Another line! It was leading to St. Peter's Basilica. I'm sure you've heard about it, it's quite famous. The line was long so we took a few photos of St. Peter's square.
We went inside the Basilica and it was HUGE and beautiful. We saw Michelangelo's famous sculpture "Pieta". It was beautiful (1st frame). Read about it here.
After that, we went outside and we were surprised to see two Swiss guards in their colorful uniforms. Don't judge! They look darn good on them.
After our Vatican tour, we went to The Castel Sant'Angelo. It's the tomb of the Roman emperor Hadrian.

We then went to the Scala Sancta. The Scala Sancta are said to be the exact steps that lead to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem where Jesus stood during his trial. The stairs were brought by St. Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, to Rome. You could only ascend the stairs on your knees. We did this, while praying.
We rode a bus going to the Roman Colosseum. It was this huge old cylindrical building that gives me the creeps since a lot died in there like gladiators and other people during the medieval period. Near the Colosseo was the Arch of Constantine.
I will be posting more this weekend. So for now....
Arrivaderci!
