I'm back (like I never left)! I'm here again with another long list of song suggestions. The last time I posted a "mixtape" was summer of last year. I have hand-picked (not really) more songs this time because I've been listening to a lot of music lately. I've added a couple of more categories and I'm excited to share them to you. Let's start! (Click the song title for the direct link.)
1. Next To Me by Imagine Dragons - Imagine Dragons will forever be one of my top bands. This song is one of their best, IMHO. I've been listening to them for the longest time already and I guess I could say that out of all their songs, this one has to be the most powerful one in terms of emotions. Maybe it's just me but, I think that there's a lot going on in this song. I don't know. You should listen to it. You won't regret it.
favorite line: So thank you for taking a chance on me. I know it isn't easy but I hope to be worth it
2. Wall of Glass by Liam Gallagher - Liam is such a rockstar which is why I know that he'd be pissed if someone (like me) would categorize his music as "Alternative Rock". Oops. My bad. Wall of Glass gives off a whole lot of ~*Oasis vibes*~ and it's wonderful.
favorite line: And I don't mean to be unkind but I see what's in your mind
3. Blue Moon by Beck - The first time I heard this song was on my dad's car when I was in 4th year high-school. He was playing his Grammy's 2014 CD and I heard this song play. I fell in love with it. It's such a good song. It's perfect for chill mornings when you have nothing to do (I wish). I love the clavinet solo in this song! So relaxing.
favorite line: Cut me down to size so I can fit inside lies you tried to hide behind your eyes.
4. We Are Golden by Mika - Another sassy song from a sassy artist. This song is an ode to all angsty teens out there because aren't we all? I'd sing this song out loud... in the shower.
favorite: Looking for treasure in the things that you threw like a magpie I live for glitter, not you.
1. Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve - This song is sooo nostalgic and I don't even know why. I always go back to this song. I think it's because of the catchy violin riff. It's a masterpiece, lyrics and all that. The music video for this song is also an A+
favorite line: I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down. You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah.
2. One by U2 - I've heard this song on the car radio a couple of times way back when I was little (well, little-er). I stumbled upon this again when I was creating a throwback playlist. I saw this pop up in the suggestions panel. I played it and I ended up listening to it on repeat for weeks. Spotify has this feature on the phone where it has song facts rolling while you play the song. I read the song facts about it and I was - how should I say this - shookt. U2 is such a great band. You guys should listen to them.
favorite line: We're one, but we're not the same. We get to carry each other, carry each other.
3. Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis - Gaaaah!!! I love this song so much!!! I mean. Yes. It's a great song. My brother plays it on the drums and I learned playing this on the piano. Huhuhu I love this song. Wonderwall is catchy and Champagne Supernova is a cult classic but Don't Look Back in Anger is everything. I love it.
favorite line: But please don't put your life in the hands of a Rock n Roll band who'll throw it all away :(
4. Snow (Hey Oh) by Red Hot Chilli Peppers - The catchy guitar intro is iconic. I'm not a huge fan of RHCP (my brother is) but this song, I like.
favorite: Privately divided by a world so undecided and there's nowhere to go.
1. Only Love by Ben Howard - I first discovered this song in high-school when 8tracks was still a thing (is it still, though?) If someone would just randomly ask a song suggestion from me, I'd suggest this one. It's that good.
favorite line: And I'll be yours to keep. A wind in the shadow, a whale song in the deep.
2. Georgia by Vance Joy - Who the heck is Georgia and what makes her so special? Kidding.
favorite line: She is something to behold . Elegant and bold. She is electricity . Running to my soul, oh
3. Lake Michigan by Rogue Wave - The Secret Life of Walter Mitty's OST is a gem. This song is perfect for road trips or travel videos ;) jk.
favorite line: Now we wear same-colored yellow uniforms. Sky is burning but at least we're warm.
4. For Elise by Saint Motel - Für Elise by Beethoven is a classic. Saint Motel gave it a twist. Just listen to it. Pay attention to one part where they actually sampled Für Elise.
favorite line: The muses of the Greeks and Romans steal the immortal beloved of Beethoven
1. White Tiger by Izzy Bizu - My sister and I listen to this song whenever she drives me to school. It gives us a lot of energy in the morning.
favorite line: This hard wind hits my skin I begin and take a breath, mmh. And all the adrenaline rushes to my head
2. like you lots by LANY - This is probably the only song from LANY that I have learned to love (OMG DON'T KILL ME). I'm very picky when it comes to music. LANY doesn't appeal to me that much (AGAIN. DON'T KILL ME). I mean they're great, but they're not my genre. Who knows? I might learn to like them someday. For now, like you lots is the only song I like from them. Sorry.
favorite line: When we’re together we look like the coolest . Babe you know they all stare
3. These Days by Rudimental, Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen - Well, that was long. So I guess I need a shorter description. This song is nice and v catchy.
favorite line: All our troubles we'll lay to rest and we'll wish we could come back to these days, these days.
4. IDGAF by Dua Lipa - #Kween #Yaaasss #Wig
favorite line: Your time is up, I'll tell you why
1. Adventure of A Lifetime Matoma Remix- Adventure of A Lifetime on uppers. KIDDING! Omg :(( Hahahahuhuhu
favorite line: Everything you want's a dream away
2. Celebrate (Ryan Riback Remix) by Mika ft. Pharrell Williams - It's a great song to listen to when you're feeling realllyyyy happy.
favorite line: I couldn't catch a particular line, tbh. I'm here for the beat.
3. Midnight Kygo Remix- Coldplay's Midnight is perfect for stargazing and dreaming. I don't know why but this never fails to make me feel drowsy. It's practically narcotic in song form.
favorite line: Leave a light, a light on.
4. Stranger Things by Kygo ft. OneRepublic - I don't actually really know what to feel about this song.
favorite line: Castles glitter under Spanish skies but I'm just looking out for you tonight
1. Glorious ft. Skylar Grey by Macklemore - Listening to Macklemore's songs has been my guilty pleasure since high-school hahaha. Don't be surprised when I randomly play one of his songs or when I rap some lines out of the blue.
favorite line: My grandma smiling down on me like woo, that boy got bars
2. Miracles (Someone Special) ft. Big Sean by Coldplay - Miracles is amazing in itself but I'm in for the rap part, really. I love memorizing rap songs. I'm a frustrated rapper, tbh. I memorized Big Sean's part and I'm proud of myself *pats back*
favorite line: Prove it to them or you prove it to yourself but honestly, it’s better if you do it for yourself
3. Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz - My mom hates it when I listen to this song but I hear her sing it all the time HAHAHAH what? I enjoy rapping this in the car whenever she drives me hehehe.
favorite line: I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad. I got sunshine in a bag
4. Homecoming by Kanye West - Chris Martin is in this song. He does the chorus. But again, I'm here for the rap.
favorite line: She said, "'Ye keep making that, keep making that platinum and gold for me!"
1. Cruisin' by Huey Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow- I stumbled upon a video on YouTube of Chris and Gwyneth singing this song before they "consciously uncoupled" and it was the cutest thing I've ever seen. You can watch it here
favorite line: So, let the music take your mind. Just release and you will find
2. Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House- I've heard this song before on the radio during Sundays. Why Sundays? Because they play hit songs from the "past" on Sundays. I've enjoyed listening to this song since then. Right now, the same radio station keeps on playing a part of this song as a commercial and it's annoying. Why can't you just play the whole song instead? Huh?
favorite line: Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof. My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
3. Crazy by Gnarls Barkley - This song is crazy good (see what I did there?). My brother and I enjoy blasting this song on the car radio. It's the first song he would play whenever he gets a hold of the AUX cord. I taught him well. This song has some funky beat going on and it's very sing-able to for bad singers like me.
favorite line: But it wasn't because I didn't know enough. I just knew too much.
4. I'm Still Standing by Elton John - Yasss, Elton! This song gives me all the positivity I need whenever I feel down. It's great for work-outs or post-exam situations. This could also be played after an 8-hour long operation that you've been scrubbing for... yikes! Hahahaha this should be an anthem for life.
favorite line: Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did. Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid. I'm still standing after all this time. Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind.
1. Masollan by Balmorrhea - I've been listening to a lot of mood music lately. I usually listen to this genre whenever I go home from a tiring day at school or before I go off for duties in the hospital. It helps me focus and clear out my mind. After listening to a couple of tracks, I found my favorites. I enjoy listening to tracks from Balmorrhea like this one. It's not too repetitive and it has different emotions going on all throughout the song. The build-up on this one is also very good.
2. Fireflies by Lights & Motion - This track makes me feel like I'm in some movie. Really. Imagine a scene in a movie where the main character just accomplished something really great. This track is perfect for that scene.
3. Pancakes by Emancipator- This one is perfect for travel vlogs. If I were to make one for my summer trip, I'd use this. Yup. Sadly, I won't be making one. Or will I? Hmmm... Stay tuned *wink*.
4. Sky Could Undress by Balmorrhea - I just wish Balmorrhea would soundtrack my life. You feel me? No? Well, listen to this and you'll understand.
1. Schuyler Sisters from Hamilton - Hamilton is just -wooh- perfect. It's a musical where the actors sing and -get this- rap. Yass. My friend, Arnold, and I would just randomly rap songs from the musical even in the middle of a lecture session. Grade 10 learners from AC actually presented this during playfest. I saw a few clips and they were awesome. I particularly enjoy this song from the musical because -you know- girl power! Hamilton is definitely on my Broadway bucket-list.
favorite line: "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal". And when I meet Thomas Jefferson, I'mma compel him to include women in the sequel!
2. Popular from Wicked- Kristin Chenoweth is the best Glinda, IMO. I love the sassiness of this song. I also enjoy watching some clips of this song on YouTube. Very entertaining!
favorite line: Don't be offended by my frank analysis, think of it as personality dialysis.
3. Two by Two from The Book of Mormon - I posted an IG story of my sister singing this while stuck in traffic. The Book of Mormon is also on my Broadway bucketlist. It's quite an offensive musical, but who cares?
favorite line: Two by two, we're marching door to door. Cause God loves Mormons, and he wants some more! A two year mission is our sacrifice! We are the army of the church of Jesus Christ! ...Of Latter-day Saints!
4. Seasons of Love from Rent - I will never get tired of listening to this song. My sister and I blast this all the time. I always attempt to hit that high note, but no. The broadway gods won't let me.
favorite line: It's time now to sing out tho' the story never ends let's celebrate, remember a year in the life of friends.
1. Mundo by IV OF SPADES - IVOS is getting all the attention they deserve and I'm so happy for them. I just hope that some fans would just stop being such party-poopers and be happy for them too. The first song I heard from them was Ilaw Sa Daan. I admit, I wasn't feeling them at first. After I heard Hey Barbara, I gave them another shot. I ended up listening to all their songs and wished for more from them. Mundo is something special. Rhythm and lyrics are on point. There's something about this song that makes you want to listen to it again and again. It's spellbinding, really. (BTW, to those who keep on saying that OPM is alive again... it was never dead. It was just buried alive.)
favorite line: Limutin na ang mundo nang magkasama tayo. Sunod sa bawat galaw, hindi na maliligaw.
2. Never Stop by Over October - I enjoy listening to and supporting budding musicians, especially local artists. Over October is very promising. I particulary love this song of theirs. Filipinos are soooo talented.
favorite line: Now I could rest my head on your shoulders and throw out all our fears and jeers and dream of better days till we're older
3. Paano? by Apo Hiking Society - I always turn the volume up whenever I hear this song on the radio. If you want to appreciate OPM, you guys should listen to the originals first. Apo Hiking Society are geniuses. Their songs are timeless. My sister caught me listening to this song once and her reaction was priceless. HAHAHA what? It's nice.
favorite line: Subukan mong magmahal o giliw ko. Kakaibang ligaya ang matatamo
4. Settled by The Ransom Collective - There's something about The Ransom Collective that makes their songs distinct. I just can't put my finger on it. Nonetheless, they're awesome.
favorite line: and i'm keeping my lungs and holding my tongue this time
Thanks for reading!
