Mixtape Vol. 4

I am on a roll right now. I'm trying to post at least 3 entries before school starts again and I just can't help but post something music related. I love sharing my favorite music with you guys. The last time I posted my Music Menu was last year. This time I'm back with more music genres to share (you're going to be surprised, for sure).

1. Tokyo by White Lies - My cousin shared this song with me and I loved it. It sounds a lot like Imagine Dragons. I put this on repeat during our trip to Japan last month.

Favorite line: Your every unhappy cruise. Oh, you've never looked good in blue. And I'm the sunset, I'm the view

2. Superposition by Young the Giant  - There's just something about this song that makes me feel emotional (wow). I've been listening to this during my last few months in college. I usually listen to this in the car right after my night duties in the hospital... very emotional indeed. It has a stripped version that I listen to more often.

Favorite line: Superstition aims with imprecision. But when things can't be explained, superposition, oh. In any universe you are my dark star

3. Where the Sky Hangs by Passion Pit - I'm not a person for lyrics or *deep* song meanings. I am very particular with the background music, though. I can point out the different instrumental parts. This song has strong bass lines... oof. I love it so much.

Favorite line: I've got somebody else just to keep me on my toes again.  I can barely stand when you're coming too close

4. Missed Connection - I used to listen to a lot of The Head and the Heart songs back in HS. From what I remembered, they used to be very indie-folk-ish. I guess bands change as well. I'm loving this song from their latest album. Definitely something you could head-bang to.

Favorite line:  Don't tell me I lost a step. Criss-crossed in the wrong direction.  Found myself in a conversation. From a missed connection.

Hello. Here we go. I've been listening to a lot of classical music lately. I have no-one to blame but TwoSet Violin. I'm thinking of posting another entry about this latest obsession of mine. Should I? Of course I should. For the past few months, my music revolved around violin pieces and concertos. The last time I was this obsessed with classical music was when I was 10... during the peak of my piano playing. I guess the obsession is Bach (get it?)

1. The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending is supposed to be a British sounding piece. I beg to differ. It reminds me so much of Asia. It gives off a lot of "Mulan" vibes and I love it. During my preparation for the Nursing Board exams.... this was on repeat. I kid you not when I say that I put my earphones on full volume whenever I listen to this. This music relaxes my spirit... YES I'M SERIOUS. This is why I made my roommates during the in-house listen to this every morning. It's beautiful.

Favorite part: 6:15

2. The Four Seasons: Spring, 1st Movement by Antonio Vivaldi - Ah yes. The Four Seasons by the one and only Antonio Vivaldi. The Four Seasons has four parts (duh?) representing the four seasons (again. duh?). Each part has subparts called "movements". I have at least 2 favorite movements per season. The most famous of them all is the first movement of Spring... this one. There are a lot of versions of this out there but I prefer Nigel Kennedy's. During the in house, my roommates and I would play this every morning to pump us up for the review. It gives me so much memories just listening to it.

Favorite part: 1:05

3. A New Satiesfaction (Gymnopedie No. 1) by Erik Satie - I'm sure most of you already heard Gymnopedie No.1 by Erik Satie. It's quite famous. This arrangement played by Ray Chen, however, ooof..... If I could marry music, I'd marry this piece. I would also love to marry Ray Chen. HAHAHAHA I'm serious. It's probably one of the most beautiful classical pieces I've ever heard. I wish I could play the violin so I could learn this piece. I've been playing this on repeat for a few months now and I can't seem to stop. Help. The cello is very beatiful in this one too. Okay... and the viola.

Favorite part: the whole song, really... but I always put  2:35 on repeat.

4. La Campanella by Niccolo Paganini - Niccolo Paganini is famous for his violin Caprices and Concertos. He's also famous for selling his soul to the devil. La Campanella is my favorite of all his compositions. I like David Garret's version of La Campanella. He plays it perfectly and he makes it look so easy. The left hand pizz is amazing.

Favorite part: 4:10

1. You by A Great Big World - This is such a cute song. I'm glad I discovered while I was looking for new songs to listen to. I love the piano part.

Favorite line: Way beyond the stars was a dream there waiting for a dreamer. To dream her

2. Guiding Light by Mumford and Sons - Mumford and Sons never disappoint.

Favorite line: But don't just slip away in the night . Don't just hurl your words from on high.

3. No Ordinary Life by Matt Corby  - I love the movie Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. My favorite song from the movie is Pure Imagination. This song by Matt Corby gives the exact same vibes that Willie Wonka has. No Ordinary Life is such a dreamy song.

Favorite line:  You've been having ordinary fun. I can see that all you've ever planned was getting old. It's all that you were told, that life's a movie. Falling into solitary love

4. OP Jebediah by The Dip  -   I've never heard of this band before but I enjoy listening to this song when I'm in the shower.

Favorite line: Uh, what would you say if she was gone. Off with someone

Hello again. Yes, I listen to KPOP now. No, it's not because of my latest trip to Korea. Yes, I'm just as surprised as you. No, this is just a phase (repeat to self 1000000x) Oh no...I hope this is just a phase.

1. BOOMBAYAH by BLACKPINK - You are darn right with what you are thinking right now. It is true. I am a Blink. There, I said it. I have BLACKPINK merchandise and I'm not embarrassed. I think I'm pretty late to the party... but who cares? It's BLACKPINK. I listen to all their songs but I guess BOOMBAYAH is the most relevant for me because it's the first song I've heard. Yes, everybody, I just got BOOMBAYAH-ED.

2. FANCY by TWICE - What is up with KPOP and UPPERCASE? Anyway... I recently started listening to TWICE after our trip to Korea. That's it.

3. Red Flavor by Red Velvet - Same goes with Red Velvet

4. MIC Drop by BTS - I put full blame on TwoSet violin for introducing me to BTS. They have about 4 videos that featured BTS. Eddy also claimed that his biases are Mozart and Jimin. Having that said, I got intrigued and started listening to BTS. Thanks a lot, TwoSet Violin. Jin is my bias, BTW. Again, this is just a phase.

1. Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears - Weezer recently released their cover of this song but the OG is still my favorite. The guitar riff during the first part is my favorite.

Favorite Line:  So glad we've almost made it. So sad they had to fade it. Everybody wants to rule the world

2. Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder - When I think of happy thoughts, I feel like Sir Duke is the perfect background music to play. The trumpet, the rhythm, the jazz.

Favorite line: Music knows it is and always will be one of the things that life just won't quit.

3. Penny Lane by The Beatles -  Not really my favorite Beatles song but it has a special place in my heart. It reminds me so much of last year's trip to Liverpool.

Favorite line: Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes. There beneath the blue suburban skies

4. Shape of My Heart by Sting - I heard this song in one of the tunnels during our Gangchon railbike experience in Korea and I liked it so much. Took me a while to find this song.

Favorite line: I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier. I know that the clubs are weapons of war. I know that diamonds mean money for this art. But that's not the shape of my heart.

1. Dulo ng Hangganan by IV of Spades-  The new IV of Spades album is bomb and this song is my personal favorite. If you like "Mundo", you'll like this song also.

Favorite line:  Kapag makapiling ka. 'Di na alam ang gagawin. Iiwas ba o titingin.

2. Pwede Ba by Lola Amour - Most of the songs from this genre were covered by my little brother's band. They have their rehearsals at home which is why I usually suffer from LSS. This song is quite cute.

Favorite line: Huwag ngayon at 'di ko yata kakayanin. Huwag ngayon.

3. Bata, Dahan-Dahan! by IV of Spades- IV of Spades really changed after Unique left the band. This one is quite metal but I'm digging it. It's different from the rest of their songs.

Favorite line: Halika na't tuklasin. Ang mundong puno ng isip hangin.

4. Antukin by Rico Blanco - I forgot this song existed until my brother's band made a cover of it. Still good.

Favorite line: Kung ayaw may dahilan, kung gusto palaging merong paraan

1. Fifth Avenue by Walk Off The Earth- WOTE usually makes covers. This is their original song and it's super cute.

Favorite line: No more wasting my time or waiting for a sign. I got a Bugatti and a Lambo on my mind. Making my dreams come true on Fifth Avenue

2. Tidal Wave by Portugal. The Man - Feel it Still by Portugal. The Man was cool but Tidal Wave is cooler IMHO.

Favorite line: These days can break. But I'm gonna take the wheel

3. Someone that Loves You by HONNE and Izzy Bizu - One word to describe this song: chill. You know the kind of music that Zara or Mango plays in their stores? This gives off that vibe.

Favorite line: I'm waiting. And I'm patient, I'm deluded. You have someone that loves you

4. No New Friends by LSD - Sia is my mom's favorite and her collaboration with Diplo and Labyrinth is awesome. I play this whenever my mom drives me.

Favorite line: I got all I need in a world of doubt. We got our champagne dreams in an endless drought. We are the kings and queens seeking our aces out. We got all we need, no new friends now

1. Be Still by Hillsong Worship - I've been listening to this song since the start of my senior year. I think I've mentioned on having a tough time during my 3rd year in nursing. I wanted to have a clearer mind and soul during my 4th year which is why I started listening to worship songs on my way to school every morning. This song, specifically, helped me a lot in meditating every morning.

Favorite line: Be still and trust. What the Lord has said is done. Find rest, don't strive. Watch as faith and grace align

2. Oceans by Hillsong United -  I also enjoy listening to this song by Hillsong United.

Favorite line: Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders

Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

3. The Power of Your Love by Maranatha - I've heard this song a lot of times already but this version has to be my favorite. My friend Pat introduced this to me during our review days. We played this over and over again a few days before the exam to give us hope and strength.

Favorite line:  And as I wait I'll rise up like the eagle. And I will soar with You. Your Spirit leads me on. In the power of Your love

4. 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman - My batch loves this song so much and I get why. I listened to this every single day right after the in-house.

Favorite line:  Bless the Lord oh my soul

Oh my soul

Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I'll worship Your Holy name

1. Use Somebody by Kings of Leon -  I saw Alicia Keys' cover of this song and it was awesome. That's all I can say.

Favorite line: I've been roaming around always looking down at all I see

2. Supersonic by Oasis - If you like Live Forever, you'll like Supersonic.

Favorite line: I'm feeling supersonic. Give me gin and tonic.

3. Don't Stop Me Now by Queen- Bo Rhap climbed on top of my favorite movies list. The last clip shown in the movie is the MV of Don't Stop Me Now. This is such a powerful song.

Favorite line: I'm a shooting star, leaping through the sky like a tiger defying the laws of gravity

4. I Still Haven't Found What I'm looking For by U2 - Because I still haven't found what I'm looking for. I rest my case.

Favorite line: I believe in the Kingdom come. Then all the colors will bleed into one. Bleed into one. But yes, I'm still running
